A Song for Tibet / Toshinori Kuga

The wind blowing from the Himalaya awakens all
colorful flowers, and it is the spirits of these
flowers of "the blessed field" (Sonam Pange),
which have protected Tibet.

All flowers bow to the goddess, Tara, to pray for
the freedom of the earth from which they rise,
the freedom of their own country. In a moment,
each will turn into a "Golden Flower." Neither
nation nor individual can demolish the field of
golden flowers. Long has the patient earth waited
but to no avail, and, in the end, is left tainted with
blood. Temples have been destroyed.

Where has the little girl's smile gone? Even though
her hair has lost its hue, it would still burn as fire
in black flame. As she offers a bouquet of yellow
flowers, I only see the beautiful hands of a labourer
grasping firmly each stem to one another.

By the lake, where the salt of good fortune sleeps,
where the water shows deep torquoise blue,
the wind carries the spirits of the flowers from the
plateau towards me. They add the prayer flag colors,
red, green, yellow, blue, white, as the five threads
I am weaving into the clothes. A mandala is on its
way to completion. It will mark the sacred place
where the Tibetan god will descend.
